As the last episode of WEtv’s hit show L.A. Hair starring celebrity had guru Kim Kimble comes to a close, leaving fans gasping and in amazement by what had taken place with Kim and her staff, I was compelled to reflect on what an amazing time I had hanging out with Kim and seeing her in action.
On February 20th 2015, I packed my bags, grabbed my passport, and headed for Atlanta (Georgia) with a smile so big that I could barely contain myself, and with good reason.
I was going to Atlanta for the Bronner Bros Hair Show, arguably the largest hair show in the world and would be meeting my Idol Kim Kimble for the very first time, something I never thought would ever happen and this gave me every reason to be elated. “This is the hair industry’s version of The Oscars” I exclaimed as I left Australia and headed for America.
Every year thousands of stylists, cosmetologists, cosmetic and beauty brands along with major celebrities make the voyage to Atlanta to witness the greatness hair extravaganza on earth. During the three-day experience, patrons are afforded direct contact with some of the world’s largest product brands such as Andis and Olaplex. They also have the privilege of learning from the experts such as Kim Kimble, the star of Wetv’s hit series L.A. Hair, and stylist to mega-stars such as Beyoncé, Shakira, Lady Ga Ga, Kerry Washington, J-Lo, Brittney Spears, and many more.
Upon arrival in Atlanta, I had the honor of having breakfast with super producer/musician Ryan Leslie at The “W” Hotel, one of Atlanta’s premiere residential and boutique style accommodations. Ryan and I would talk briefly about his new project(s) and he would proceed to tell me how much he loves Australia, especially Perth.
After having breakfast with Mr.Leslie, I would make my way to meet with celebrity hair guru Kim Kimble, who was also staying at The “W”. “I was shocked and amazed that I was sitting right in front of the Kim Kimble, I felt like a little girl as I was looking directly at my idol”.
After getting myself together and taking a deep breath LOL, Kim and I would have conversations about working together and I would ask Kim to come to Australia and she agreed, Kim would also advise that she’d be more than happy to have me carry her K2 beauty line in my salon and I was too thrilled. After great convo and breakfast, we would head out to do some shopping and grab a few trinkets and engage in some more girl talk.
The following day I would be amazed as I entered in The Bronner Bros Hair Show for the first time ever and would be speechless as she saw thousands of people flowing throughout the affair. For the next two days, I would shadow Kim as she hit the main stage at the event to share her expertise on the latest hair and business trends, as well as insight into her life as one of the worlds most renowned celebrity hair gurus.
After meeting with Kim for a few hours, I would unexpectedly be asked to the stage courtesy of Sheen Magazine and speak to the masses for a moment, where I would share a magical moment with Dr. Heavenly star of Bravo’s hit TV series Married To Medicine, thanks to Sheen Magazine editor in chief Sammi Haynes. I would then make her way over to meet with Sophisticates Black Hair editor Jocelyn Amador, who has been very gracious to me for quite some time and has featured me in the print and digital versions of the mag on occasion.
On the last day of the event, I would be privy to meeting with amazing stars from the biggest shows on television. I would meet with Demetria Mckinney and Claudia Jordan of the number one show on cable The Real Housewives Of Atlanta (Bravo), Shay Johnson and Momma Dee of VH1’s number one show Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, D.Woods/Danity Kane, Latavia Roberson/Destinys Child, celebrity photographer Derek Blanks, celebrity wardrobe stylist Troi Anthoni(NeNe Leakes, Angela Simmons, etc), the team from and Olaplex slim , Jordan and brad and a host of others, including James Bronner himself. Needless to say that by the end of my voyage to Atlanta, I had an amazing experience that will last a lifetime.
